System - Meta Robots

Joomla gives you four SEO switches. Your site probably needs twenty. System - Meta Robots fills the gap; and now your settings automatically flow down to every child page.

Overview

Every page your site sends to Google with the wrong instructions is a page working against you. System – Meta Robots puts you back in control — telling search engines precisely which pages to show, hide, archive, or limit. Your content appears in search results exactly the way you want it to.

Proof

  • 4.5★ rating on the Joomla Extensions Directory
  • 4 default options vs 20 with this plugin
  • Supports Joomla 3, 4, 5, and 6
  • Every directive Google officially supports, plus a few extras

> "One of the best Meta-Tools.  You can change the follower and noindex in articles directly. It saves time." - Phillip Blum

> "This handy plugin has saved me a lot of time." — Robert G Mears

How it works

Your SEO settings now follow a simple chain of command:

  1. Set site-wide defaults once in Global Configuration.
  2. Set rules on a parent menu item - every child page inherits them automatically/
  3. Override individual pages or submenus whenever you need an exception. Content-level settings always win.
  4. Results are cached so your site doesn't repeat work it's already done.

Change the parent. Done

What you actually get

Make pages disappear from Google on a date - Set an expiry on event pages. After that date, Google stops showing them. No manual cleanup.

Control what Google shows in search results - Limit snippet length, image preview size, and video preview duration per page.

Stop Google from archiving your pages - Turn off the "Cached" link anywhere stale content would be a problem.

Block auto-translation - Keep your exact wording intact; no Google-translated versions offered.

Settings that cascade (New) - Set it on the parent menu item once. Every child page inherits it.

Works everywhere in Joomla - Articles, menus, categories, tags, weblinks, newsfeeds, contacts.

Covers PDFs and downloads too - X-Robots-Tag headers handle files that meta tags can't reach.

Prevents contradictory rules - Can't accidentally set both `index` and `noindex` at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Doesn't robots.txt already do this?

robots.txt controls whole sections and can be ignored. Meta Robots rules are per-page and respected by Google.

Will cascading change settings I've already set?

No. Existing content-level settings always win. Cascading only fills gaps where nothing is set.

Will this slow my site down?

The opposite — resolved menu settings are cached, so the same lookup never runs twice.

Is it hard to set up?

Upload, enable, done. Same as any Joomla plugin.

Why is this software free?

I’m ditching the freemium game and giving this software to the Joomla crowd for free. It’s a nod to “Jumla”—Swahili for “all together”—because fragmentation sucks, and I’d rather focus on innovation and paid gigs. Use it, build with it, and if you need custom work, I’m super into that.

What's The Catch?

There isn’t one! I’m all about building tools that empower the Joomla community and spark creativity. This software’s free because I’d rather see it in your hands - fueling awesome projects. If you really feel like paying something, I’d appreciate a review in the Joomla Extension Directory—your feedback means a lot!
